guess you had to be there

i'm writing you to catch you up on places i've been.

a bit late, but just spent a loverly weekend at Balai sa Laiya with Mabel. loverly place. perfect for not-so-active people who just want to kill that kind of time at the beach.

and yes, sorry: no 3 x 5s. not that i ever had to overcome the urge to fit the world inside a picture frame.

i also had the pleasure of finally finishing off Heroes. i found the ending a bit flat given the build-up. and i can't say i didn't see the Petrelli's 'final solution' coming.

the most interesting thing i find about the show is the perspective it seems to offer on the effect of the sort of 'evolution' that forms one of the central conceits of the series. people who develop superpowers tend to be hobbled by their abilities; a bit too concerned about what they literally can and can't do, if you will. the most interesting characters for me, then, are the ones without 'special abilities'.

i'd say more, but i'm on limited access. i will add, on a totally unrelated note, that there may be some big news here soon. big for me anyway.

right. later.

yep, nice place... and near, too!

as for heroes, must agree with your assessment on the ending. still, i kinda figured everything had been said about that kind of conceit, i.e. the dissassembling of the hero. but then again, i have the complete set of wild cards anthologies.

hasn't that been your stand from the beginning? that 'everything's been done'? at any rate, the deconstruction here is my own; i doubt that was really part of the conceit of Tim Kring when he created the show. the main conceit of the show seems to me to be what people have been doing at least since Alan Moore did Watchmen (yes, i know, arguably longer), which is a bit of the trend with superhero television of late (arguably since Lois and Clark and My Secret Identity), but i think it does a superb job of creating something that still manages to be its own thing, while being an homage to everything else that *has* been done.

moi? everything's been done before? I think I may have said that before but am not a firm believer in that. like you, I do think that one can develop new stuff from old. :-)

still, I may ask for further clarification from you on this matter.
